A short history of gift baskets

Although we might think of gift baskets as a modern way to give gifts, gift baskets have actually a rather long legacy. Spanning years and cultures, there are several fascinating stories of gift baskets that have been given throughout history.

Likely one of the earliest accounts of a gift coming in a basket is the basket of young plants that the pagan goddess Ester carried in a basket, to be used as a sacred offering. Although some scholars argue the place of Ester in Easter history, nevertheless this is the likely source of the idea of what came to be the modern-day Easter gift basket.

Another early gift basket story that had sacred connotations is the Old Testament story of Moses' mother placing the infant Moses into a wicker basket. She then hid the basket in the reeds on the river's edge so that the daughter of the Egyptian royal family would find him and eventually take Moses into her custody and protection.

Baskets have been used not only for gift basket purposes but also for utilitarian reasons for centuries. They were used to carry eggs into the house from the chicken coop, or baskets called trugs were needed to harvest vegetables from the kitchen garden and get them into the home to prepare for meals. Baskets were used as a kind of large saddle bag on horses, donkeys and mules to carry supplies, and even people on occasion.

Most baskets, including your next gift basket, even today are made by hand. Even with the advent of the Industrial Age, basket making is almost impossible to do using machinery, and instead requires the same hand-crafting that has been used throughout time. Some cultures have turned basket making into an art form. Today you will find many Native American groups who craft special baskets that are used to gather wild huckleberries in the late spring and early summer. Many Native American tribes are famous for their basket-making artistry.

The care taken with making anything by hand lends a level of special attention to detail that makes gift baskets so lovely to give and receive. A Corporate Holiday Gift Basket

The rock below is a out cropping called a kopje ( pronounced  copy, it is a dutch word ). The pride rock is the one featured in the Lion King.


It looks like a great place to explore, but lions do gather there and plenty of snakes so not a good idea to wander in.
I could see them just like in the movie, holding a meeting with a cookies gift basket and some meat and cheese gift baskets, discussing their next move, just kidding. I believe they call them kopje because there are many of them, and they start to look the same ( copy ). Bookmark ( copy ) our website to your favorites. Theme gift basket for the right occasion

The London needle is in the City of Westminster, on the Victoria Embankment near the  Golden Jubilee Bridges.It was presented to the United Kingdom in 1819 by Mehemet Ali, the Albanian-born viceroy of Egypt, in commemoration of the victories of Lord Nelson at the Battle of the Nile and Sir Ralph Abercromby at the Battle of Alexandria in 1801. Although the British government welcomed the gesture, it declined to fund the expense of transporting it to London.

The obelisk remained in Alexandria until 1877 when Sir William James Erasmus Wilson, a distinguished anatomist and dermatologist, sponsored its transportation to London at a cost of some £10,000 (a very considerable sum in those days). It was dug out of the sand in which it had been buried for nearly 2,000 years and was encased in a great iron cylinder, 92 feet (28 m) long and 16 feet (4.9 m) in diameter, designed by the engineer John Dixon and dubbed Cleopatra, to be commanded by Captain Carter. It had a vertical stem and stern, a rudder, two bilge keels, a mast for balancing sails, and a deck house. This acted as a floating pontoon which was to be towed to London by the ship Olga, commanded by Captain Booth.

Rocky Mountain High and unique gourmet gift baskets

Rocky Mountain High is more than a figure of speech, Denver is the mile high city ,one mile above sea level. Colorado has a lot of mountains called the 14ers because they are 14,000 foot or more above sea level. They are a popular place to hike, climb and camp. They also have much wildlife, , bob cats, deer and elk, plus all the other little critters and places to fish.
In the fall the elk rut, meaning they try to gather as many females together for mating. In Rocky Mountain Park above Estes Park you can drive thru and watch herd after herd and listen to the bugle of the male elk.

They wear them selves out trying to keep ther harlem together and the other bulls from taking some of there females. You will see them running back and forth. What we guys go thru to keep you ladies happy !


This elk is bidding his time before the season starts and will probaly find many female admirers.

The power of wind and unique gift baskets

 Wind power is one of the future sources of energy that looks promising, and will help cut our dependence on foriegn oil. The sound of a wind turbine blade is hard to describe and the sound of a wind farm is even harder to describe. I had the opportunity to visit a testing site for wind towers the blades on some of them are 65 to 130  foot long or more, the towers are 200 to three hundred feet tall. The one I visited had a ladder in the center and you need to climb it, to get to the top and there was not much room to spare going up. The view from the top was great, it was windy and a little cold that day. You can imagine it takes a little bit of a breeze to get the blades moving,so location is high on the list.













This wind turbine is just south of Boulder,Colorado. The mountains in the back ground are the flatirons in Boulder. Called the foothills of the Rockies.
